The Common Counoll of the City of Ann Arbor ordains: Section 1. That sections three and four of an ordinance entitled "An Ordinance Itelative to Sidewalks" passed Maroh 0. 1893; approved March 11, 1893, as amended by an ordinanoe passed February 17, 1890; approved February 18, 1896, be and the same are hereby amended so as to read as follows: Section 3. Within the limlts herein specified all sidewalks shall hereafter be constructed of stone flagging or artificial stone (cement) and of no other material, to-wlt: On Main street between Packard and Catherine streets; on Ashley street between Huron and William streets; on Fourth avenue be. tween Packard and Catherine streets; on División street between Detroit and Packard streets; on State street between Fuller and Packard streets; on Ann street between Ashley and State streets; on AVashington, Liberty and William streets between Ashley and State streets; on the east side of Detroit street between Fourth Avenue and Depot street; on both sides of the North, East and South University avenues adjoining the University grounds or campus; and on the east side of Washtenaw avenue between East University avenue and Hill street, and all other sidewalks within the district bounded and enclosed by the following streets and parts of streets, to-wit: Main street from Packard to Catherine, Catherine street from Main to División, División street from Catherine to Kingsley, Kingsley street from División to Ingalls, Ingalls street from Kingsley to Huron, Huron street from Ingalls to Twelfth, Twelfth street from Huron to North University avenue, North Uni,versity avenue from Twelfth street to Washtenaw avenue, Washtenaw avenue from North University avenue to Hill street, Hill street from Washtenaw avenue to East University avenue, East University avenue from Hill street to Tappan street, Tappan street from East University avenue to Oakland avenue, Oakland avenue from Tappan street to Arch street, all of Arch street, Packard sireei irom Aren to Mam, and also upon Oeddes avenue from Washtemiw avenue to übservatory street, shall be constructed of stone ílagging or artificial stone (cement). Upon all other streets or parts of streets in this city the sidewalks shall be constructed, repaired or renewed of stone iiagging, artificial stone, plank, or of any other material as ordered by resolution of the Common Council or as hereinafter provided; and all materials shall be first class, satisfactory to the board of public works. Section 4. Stone walks shall be constructed according to the follovviug specifications: Stone iiagging shall have a smooth upper surface and shall not be less than two inches in thickness. The llagstones shall not be less than four feet square, shall be dressed square and even on i de sides so as to make close and even joints and shall be laid smooth side up upon clean sand in water lime. Oíd stone iiagging may be recut and relaid under the direction and permission of the street commissioner, but not less than six feet in width of the central portion of any stone sidewalk in the business portion of the city shall ahvays be repaired or renewed with new flagging. This ordinance shall be in effect on and after ten days from legal publication. Passed in Common Council this 18th dayof July, A. D. 1898. Glen X. Mills, City Clerk.
