R. C. Aikin says he has tried painfc of all colors, and a bive painted straight black was the worst he ever had for swarnring; has had manydarkred aud thiuks they get too hot and cause swarming ; prefers light shades. Doolittle thinks hives should stand in ehade from 8:30 to 4:30 o'clock, in which case color will make uo diiïerence. But he thinks bees do ruuch the best in hives not painted at all, if the hives have single walls. If tbere's any good reason for paint otber than looks, he has never seen it advanced. He wouldu't let any one paint bis single walled hives for $1 each. It wonld lose him $3 in honey, beoause it would hinder earlv breeding.
