The largest cathedral in the world ia St. Peter's, at Rome, on the site wliere it is said St. Peter was interred. The total length of the interior is 612% English feet, transept M6% feet, diameter of cupola 193 feet, height of dome from pavement to the top of cross 448 feet. It was begun in 1450 A. D., dedicated in 1626, but not finished until 1880. Forty-three popes lived and died during the process of building. The cost is set down at $70,000,000.
