The Detroit Tribune of Tuesday morning contains the following interview : "I have abont made np my mind to be a oandidate for another term in the legialature, " said Representativo A. J. Sawyer, of Ann Arbor, ia reply to questions. "I have been able to be of some service to the university in the legislatnre, and the nniversity people are anxious that I hall be a oandidate again. I said that I wonld not be a oandidate if Qov. Pingree did not want me to go baok, or if Judson intended to oppose me. I have not seen the governor, but I met Judson, and he intimated that there wonld be no opposition to my oandidaoy as far as he is oouoerned. If that proves to be the oase, I have li trie doubt that I shall make the run." "Do you mean that yon shall support the Atkinson bill if you go baok?" he was asked. "Why I have always snpported the Atkinson bill. There were oartain ainendments that I wanted made to the bill, and I worked hard to get those amendments made. When they were made, I supported the bill and votefl for it. Yes, sir, I am very muoh in favor of the Atkinsgn bill." Sawyer has been snggested as one of the best men Qov. Pingree could find to suooeed Col. Atkinson as floor leader of the fight for eqaal taxatioo, and a good maoy politioians are inclined to Jook upon nis present attitude as au indioation that tbe Judson and antiJudson flght in Washtenaw county is about to be sottled up, and that Sawyer is about to olimb iuto the Pingree wagon. The Detroit Evening News of Tuesdsy evening apropos of this interview says: Sheriff JwJsuu wa: seen in regard to the A. J. Sawyr interview in this morning's Tribune, in which the state representativo frurn this district said that he wonld probably stand for a renomination on the strength of Mr. Judson intimating that; he would not oppose his oandidaoy. Said the Pingree leader: "I want it understood that I am in favor of the nomination of Hon. Qeorge 8. Wheeler, of Salem, first, last and all the time. The fight waged against me by Mr. Sawyer and the Moran crowd has been a personal one against my honor, ft bas been exceedingly bitter, and the only way they can patoh peaoe vvith me is a full retraotion of the lies they have tried to ruin me with. I nave preoipitated no flght. They have made the war and they must end it. I am pleased to see that Mr. Sawyer is experienoiug a ohange of heart and is willing to support Gov. Pingree's measures, bnt I perl'er to see Mr. Wheeler in the legislature. He is a man that. Gov. Pingree oan depend on fully, and we are not taking auy chances this year. "' A News man met Editor S. A. Moran, of the Ann Arbor Register, today. Moran is leader of the redhot fight begun in Wasbtenaw last spring against Sheriff Judson's rule of looal repnblican afïairs. Judson oarried the county in tbe oonvention to ohoose delegates to the congressional conventioa, but his opponents said the Pingree boom was what enabled him todo it. Moran said today that anti-Jndsnn feeling has been growing rapidly, and that the sheriff will be dnwned in the coming county oonvention. "Out of 70 delegates eleoted so far, we have 49 or 50," said he. "I believe Sawyer oan go back to the legislature if he wants to, not beoanse ha has made peaoe witb Judson, but beoause Judson can't defeat him." The Ann Arbor Register this week claims that of 70 delegates eleoted 13 are for Judson and 63 are against him and that only 50 more delegates out of the 148 to be eleoted ara needed to award viotory to the Moranites and takes great credit to itself for the flght agaiust Judsoo. The Evening Times bas a table of delegates eleoted showing 17 Judsonites, 5J Moranites and 12 doubtfnl. It says of the delegates to be eleoted that Judson will have 58 sure and 26 will be against him surely while 60 more votes are in dispute. The Soio delegates eleoted are:Arthur Lyons, Walter Tnbbs, William Seyfried, William Gunther, Peter Reider, Frank Smith, Lewis Boyden, William Allison and Hamer Phelps. The delegates frorn Dexter are Chas. Bell, Emerson Howard, Charles Sohultz and Riohard Whalen. The êittsfi8ld delegates are A. F. Smitb, George Wilsey, Alfred Hutzel, John Harwood, Frank Tiohnor.
