It augurs well for our publio sohools wheu in so important au event as our Annnal Fair one whole day is given to the schools and sohool work. The School Exhibit is a fixture and is cartainly a pleasant and profitable feature oL the Fair. It has proven very benefioia! to pupils and teachers aud has stimulated the interest of parents in school work. It has proven oue of the most effeotive rueaus of overcoining one of the most serious drawbacks to the distriot school - ita isolation. Teachers and pupils of oue school oome in contact with neighboring sohools and each finds help in tbe exbibits of the other, obtains the inspiration ol numbers and returns to work feeling that each school is a potent factor, an integral part of onr eduoational systein. The Fair Sooiety this year is more liberal than ever in the matter oJ premiums and the business and professional men of Aun Arbor have again oontributed willingly toward making a sucoess of the day. My visiting last year revealed the faot that only about 35 sohool distriots in the couuty are supplied with a library of aay oharacter. Eaoh of these ought to make additions this year and every other sohool ought to begin one. The premium lists this year have been arranged to give the prizes largely to individual work rather than to rniscellaneous school work. This will enable the Echools to present their best efforts, aud pupils may compete for more than one prize. I hope that this year a Btill greater interest will be displayed on the pari of sohool offlcers, patrous, fceaohers and pupils to the end that Sohool Day may answer the purpose of its establishmenl - an occasion of inspiration and a soaroe of lastiDg good to our schools. Connty CommissioDer of Schools.
