Hon. W. E. Depew, of Alpeua, who was bom in Chelsea, Nov. 23, 1848, graduated from the law departtnent of he university in 1875, and who was well knoivn in this ity, died very suddenly afc Harrisille, Mich., on Wednesday. ïi.. Depew was one of Alpeua's foremorit citizens and was one of toe ablest lawyera in the coonty. He was eleoted prosecntiug attorney of Alcona oounty for three terms and at the time of bis death was filling the same office for Alpena connty. Mr. Dapew commeuced the practice of law. in his native village of Chelsea after his graduatioD iu 1875. Sept. 26, 1877, he married Miss Mary V. Gates, of Sylvan Center, who survives him. Trom 1876 to 1878 he was to-nship superintendent of sohools for Sylvan, and ia 1878 was one of t':e trustees of the Chelsea union school and directoi of the board. In 1879-80-81 he was supervisor of Sylvan township. In 1880 he was a candidate for judge of probate on the republic: n ticket being defeated by Jndge ÍV. D. Barriman. His father was Jonn C. Depew who oame to Sylvan with his parents in 1832, was in later years supervisor of the town and was foully murdered in 186á while oí his way to bis hornea mile west of Cheh.ia with a large sum of money on his person.
