Tbe engiue room, heating room and wheelhouse of the north mili of the Peninsular Paper Co., at Ypsilanti, were destroyed by fire ou Wednesday evening, and the bead gates of tbe dam were badly damaged. Tbe fire canght in the wheelhonse, probably from a heated jonrnal. Tbe main building was completely gotted, inclnding most of the ruacbinery. Unly the east vving and boiler house were saved. Tbe fire departrnent was quick to respond, bat owiug to lack of pressnretbrotigb. distanoe from the city water stipply, was unable to render much assistance except to keep the flames from tbe paper room nutil the old fire engine was set to wáik, wheD the fire was placed under control. Loss estimated at 75,000, paitially insured. Twenty men are thrown ont of work. The mili was rebuilt this snmmer and was rushed with orders after several years of idleness. Fiteman Babcock was suffooated bysmokeand takeD from the building in an unoonscious state.
