The total length of the world's telegraph system is not much over 5,000,000 miles. This is exclusive of 1,814,000 miles of submarlne cables. This mileage is apportioned as follows: Europe, 1,765,000; Asia, 311,000; AMca, 100,000; Australia, 218,000; America, 2,500.000.
