The democratie seoond representativa district convention roet at Saline Tuesday, W. L. Watkius, of Manohester, oalling the convention to order aDd introdneing M. T. Woodrnfl, of Ypsilanti as chaiiman. John Clark, of York, was made secretary and the following committees were appointed. Credentials- H. L. Ren au, of Sharon, J. E, MoGregor, of Ypsilanti, and E. R. Twist, of Superior. Organizatiou and Order of Business - E. Looniis, of Ypsilanti, Alf. Davenport, of York, and Peter Weinett, of Saline. Resolotions - Jacob Birkle, of Lodi, W. A. Rnssell, of Augusta, and N. B. Harding, of Ypailatit). After dinner the ternporary organization was made permanent, M. T. Woodruff making a rousiug speeoh. Ex-Mayor Harding, of Ypsilanti, read the report of the comruittee on resolutions, wbioh endorsed the Chioago platform, Justin R. Whitiug, and jledged the uominee to a polioy of re;renchinent and eoonomy at Lansing. Messrs. MoGregor, Twist and Hagaman were uppoiuted tellers. W. L. Watkius in a forceful speech, placed the name of Nathaniel Sohmid, of Manobester, before the convention. M. T. Woodruff performed the same service for Henry Stumpenhnsen, of Ypsilanti town. The ballot stood Stumpenbusen 61, Schmid 50. The nomination was made unanimous and both tbe candidatos came before the convention and made esoellent speeohes. Chas. A. Ward, oandidate for state senator, who was in tbe 3all, was called for aud addressed the ctmvention upon the issues of tbe campaign, saying amoug otber things that be believed raili'oad property should be taxed to tbe same extent that other property is taxed, and that if we can't get equal taxation any otber way we oan rep6al the charter of the Michigan Central, whioh some people think stands in tbe way of justice. The following district committee was appointed : W. L. WatkiDS, of Manobester, James Louden, Ypsilauti, and Dr. Pyle, York.
