Sanday eveniu abont 8 o'olook Thomas Ninde, jr. , of Ypsüauti, wbo is well known in Washtenaw connty by reason of bis horse jockey proclivities, shot Miís Millie Yoaug, a waitress at the Hawkins house, Ypsilanti, to whom he had been trying to pay bis addresees, bnt whioh she by no means enoouraged. Miss Yoting had decided to return to her home in Carletoo the next day and was out walking with Mr. Curtís, a barkeeper at the Hawkins house, aod bis wife, when just west of the Oleary college they were overtaken by Ninde, who had heard of Miss Young's intention. "Millie, " said Ninde, "I want to speak with you a minute." "What isit?" "I want to speak witb you privately." "If you have anytbing to say to me, Tom, yon can say it before this lady. You have oreated two scwnes for me already and you muet not oréate a third. " Mrs. Curtís saw that trouble waa brewing and took Millie by the arm as if to draw 'hev away. As sbe was doing tbia, Ninde drew his revolver quickly and said as he pulled the trigger, " Well here is the third scène tben." Tbe wounded girl was taken to the 3awkins house and Dr. Hnll wassnmmoued. He found tbat the bnllet had strnck her just above the heart but was dfiflected by a oorset steel which oaused it to glance and lodge in her chest. As Boon as Ninde fired the shot he disappeared among some bushes on tbe awn adjacent to the ooilege. He rau direct to the city-lookup and knookea attbe,door. Jailer Jaekson, ojened it, and Ninde, said "I want to be locked up." Mr. Jackson inquired what was the matter, but all Ninde wonld say was that he wisbed to be put bebind the jars and he did nnt oare wbat the law did with bitu. He was promptly looked up. Ninde slept like a cbild all night and after bis first spasm of terror at wbat je had done was over seemed to take Dut little interest in his lasb deed, exoept to state that he was glad the girl was alive. He was taken before Justioe Childs Monday afternoon and waiving examination waa taken to the oounty jail to await ttial on thecharge of attempt to oommit murder. Niade ie a son of the late Judge of Probate Ninde, and a nephew of Wm. Crane, of Vail & Crane, of Detroit and of Albert Crane, of the late law firm of Uhl & Crane, of Grand Rapios. Ha has never exhibited the ambition or ability of the members of his family, but has been content to make bis living as a bostler or hoise jockey, and has lately dissapated quite heavily. His only brotber committod suïcide about eight years ago and this shooting aot was done in a moment of jealous and unreasoning frenzy beoause of Miss Young's indifference towards him
