The past year bas been a most suooessful one in both the nniversity bospitals, the total number of patients receiving treatment during that time being 2,45b. At the University hospital dnting the 12 taonths from July 1, 1897, to Jnly 1, 1898, 1,715 patients received treatment. Of this nnmber 1,072 boarded at the hospital duriné," treatment and 643 boarded outside. The nnmber of men treated was 1,055, the nnmber of women 660. Classified according to oocnpations, 375 were honsewives, 288 farmers, 191 nniversity studants, 71 laborera and 30 doïnestics. With regard to plaoe of residenoe 1,343 - or all bnt 172 - were from Michigan. Of the 172, 85 were from Ohio, 21 from Indiana and 11 from Illinois. Tbe five counties in Miobigan snpplying the largest nnmber of patieuts were. Washtenaw, 556: Jackson, 74; Calhonn, 50; Wayne, 48; fcjhiawassee, 42. The largest ünmber in the hospital at any one time was 85 and the sinallest nnmber 27. The number of deaths for the year was 29 and tbe death rate among the in-patients was 27. The expenses of the hospital for the year, exolusive of heating, lighting, repairs and improvements, were $21,150.12. The receipts were $21,750, or 5,000 more than for aDy former year. Daring uearly tbe entire year the wards were overorowded. Altbongh built to acoominodate only 64 patients, over 80 beds, and at one time 85, were crowded into the two rooms of tne hospital. The year in the Homeopathie hospital oorresponds to the college year, exteuding from Oot. 1, 1897, to.luly 1, 1898. Doring that time 738 patients were preseDted before the olasses. The nninber of in-patients was 715 and of out-patients 23. The increase ia the number of in-patients over theprevious year was 98, and of out-patients 225 or a total increase of 823. The average daily number of in-patienta was 32, an iucrease of llover the previons year; the highest nunaber of in-patients was 65 on April 1, 1898, and the lowest number 13 on Dec. 2, 1897. The number of deaths weie three and the percentage two-fifths of one per cent. The oconpations and namber of in-patients were as f ollows : Housewivea, 104; farmers, 71; meohanics, 17; laborers, 15; students, 13; other oocupationsa, 62 ; children, 33. Of the 315 patients, 281 were from Michigan, 9 eaoh from Obio and Indiana, 8 from Illinois, 6 from otber states and 2 from 'Canada. Washtenaw oounty supplied 53 of the Michigan patients, Ingham 16, and Wayne 15. The total amount of earnings tnrned into the treasury for the nine nionths was $5,335.81, whioh was an increase over the pre vious year of f2,481.18.
