Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 3. - Postmaster Wills received a letter from General Shafter, dated Camp Wikoff, Sept. 26, in which he says of newspaper attacks upon him: "The attacks of the yellow press upon me and others of the administration are simply outrageous. The articles are fllled with untruths, beginning with the one that I was responsible for the equipment of the army with Springfleld riflts. which you and every other sensible man knows is a lie. The behavior of some of the yellow journalists was so outrageous before we even got into Cuba that I had to put my hand on them, and after we got into Cuba it was still worse. Their letters are the result of personal spite. If I had come back with a defeated army there might have been some excuse for their talk, but having commanded one of the most successful campaigns of modern liistory it is simply an outrage."
