Orrin R. Pierce, the democratic candidate for congress, was in the city yesterday. He is a solid, substantial business man, who makes a good impression upon the voters who meet him.

Dr. J. B. Angell, Maj. H. Soule, Regent H. S. Dean, Dr. W. F. Breakey, Maj. W. C. Stevens, Hon. A. J. Sawyer and Hon. Reuben Kempf attended the unveiling of the Gov. Blair monument in Lansing Wednesday.

Prof. R. H. Kempf returned Wednesday from a six weeks, visit to the Pacific coast where he went to care for his brother-in-law, August Wiedeman, who was very sick. During his stay Prof. Kempf visited Walla Walla, Seattle and other northwest cities. At Seattle he met Ralph McAllaster and "Count" Villa. The "Count" had just returned from the Kloundyke where he gained much experience and some mining claims from which be hopes to realize a fortune some day.
