Dr. Angell's Address
President Angell delivered a short address at the Congregational church Sunday on the attitude of the Turkish government towards American missions.
He said that the Turks as a rule were very tolerant toward all other denominations, principally because they considered their religion superior to all others. They favor the American missionary and looked with favor upon the American people as a whole; one reason of it is that this is the only country which approaches Turkey with an aim to doing good. The missionaries do their work almost wholly among the Armenians, which causes no little amount of jealousy on the part of the Turks who thought the missionaries were encouraging the Armenians, while in fact the very opposite was the truth.
He saw no statement on the part of the Turkish government rejecting missionaries.
