BIG BANK DEPOSITS.

Much Filthy Lucre is Deposited in the Ann Arbor Banks.

The four banks of Ann Arbor at the close of business on Dec. 1, had deposits amounting in all to 2,331,606.81. Counting the population of Ann Arbor at 15,000. this would be $155.44 for every man, woman and child in the city. Of these deposits $1,339,674.83 were savings deposits; $401,926.16 were certificates of deposits; $564,857.40 were commercial deposits and $25,648.24 were from other banks. The loans and discounts of the four banks footed up $1,193,739.35; the national and state bonds, $49,700; the stocks, bonds and mortgages to $1,025,727.23.

The capital stock of the banks is $250,000, the surplus, $205,000 and the undivided profits, $45,427.22.

The actual cash on hand was $13,807.64 and the amount on deposit in other banks, immediately available was $325,659.19. Of the cash on hand $54,023 was in bank bills, $75,570.40 was in gold, $4,002.05 in silver, $947.63 in nickels and cents, while $9,264.56 was in checks and other cash items.

There are very few towns of the size of Ann Arbor which can make as good a bank showing.
