The addition to the library building at the University of Michigan is 54 feet long, 40 feet wide, and four stories high. It is estimated that the three lower floors, comprising the book vault, will hold 70,000 volumes. The fourth story will be connected with the art gallery, of which it will become a part. The third floor of the book department will be used for shelving rare and valuable works. It is also expected that the Thoreau and Emerson collections will be placed here, and that the floor will be known as the Concord Room.
