Kicking on the Lake Shore.

The Manchester Enterprise has for many years been registering kicks on the Lake Shore management at Manchester. For years it was a dilapidated building used tor a depot. Just now it is poor passenger and freight accommodations from Detroit. Concerning the latter it says:

The matter of transportation and freight traffic between Detroit and Manchester, as spoken of by the Enterprise at the time of the Detroit business men's visit here, has been the subject of much discussion between the Lake Shore and the manufacturers and merchants exchange of Detroit. The Lake Shore people argue that it is unfair to claim a distinction in favor of Toledo because the distance from Manchester to Detroit by way of Monroe, is greater than it is direct to Toledo. They claim that freight cannot go by way of Ypsilanti because the Michigan Central would have to be paid their price for hauling it from Ypsilanti to Detroit. What if they did, the distance by that route is only 54 miles, not much more than half the distance by way of Monroe, and it would seem that the rates on both roads ought to be less than by one road running "way around Robin Hood's barn."  Let us see. The Lake Shore gives Tecumseh the same rates to and from Detroit that the Lima Northern does, and hauls around by way of Monroe, just the same as they do Manchester people and freight. If they can afford to do it for them why not for Manchester. We think we can answer that easily enough; simply because we have no competitive road now to compel them to. Will our merchants and the Detroit merchants unite and make them do it?
