The Fipian dock is rather a curiosity; it is made from a hollowed tree trunk, something after the shape of a canoe. This is placed on the ground in the center of the towns. At 12 o'clock a few sharp strokes upon this hollow trunk with a wooden club attract the attention, then twelve slow, loud strokes are given. This takes place every hour, the right number of strokes being given. The sound can be heard from one side of the harbor to another.
