The case of Joseph Green vs. John Coyle was tried in the circuit court today. Green was employed as a farm hand by Coyle and they had an altercation Dec. 20, 1897, because he infringed a rule that all hands should be in by 9 o'clock at night. He was attacked, he claimed, by Coyle with a pitchfork and struck over the head with the tines, one of the tines inflicting a scalp wound which required the services of a doctor. Coyle alleged that the striking was done in self defense. The case has been given to the jury.
