Mary J. , the relict of Levi C. Quackenbush, of Salem, died Tuesday morning, shortly after rnidnight. The. funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Lapham M. E. church, of which she had been a life long member. The pastor, Rev. Eugene Coffin, will officiate. Mrs. Quackenbush was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orson Packard, and born 70 years ago in Wayne county, New York. She with her parents removed to Salem in the year 1829, before she was a year old. They commenced life in the wilderness when wolves were more numerous than people. Their journey from Detroit was made with an ox team. Mrs. Quackenbash was married when she was 18 years of age. Of this union five children viz Irving, of West Branch, Ogemaw county. John, of Salem, Edward,a teacher in the Grand Ledge high school, Alice, of Salem, and Mrs. Mary Tate, of Superior, who resides on the farm cleared up in the wilderness by her grandfather Packard, and 12 grand children survive. Mrs. Quackenbush was very domestic in her tastes and much respected for her many virtures.
