The U. Of M. Cannon

The war department has solved the question as to the disposition of the artillery captured from Spain in Cuba and Porto Rico, by turning the whole matter over to the governors of the states. One gun will be allotted to each state, and the governor is asked to decide what disposition shall be made of it.

The senior class has asked for a cannon as a class memorial to be placed on the campus. The request was made through the G. A. R. As it is now it will be left to Governor Pingree. Inasmuch as Detroit also wants one, it is a slim chance for the U. of M.
