Whitmore Lake

Lawyer Stowe, of Howell, made our town on a business trip yesterday.

Ed Bickwith has purchased a lot on the Prayadition on which he will build a residence at once.

Wm. Osborne has purchased a lot from Chas. L. Rane and will build a residence this season.

The rainy season has a depressing tendency on our hotels as tourists are not venturing out as yet.

Capt. Manly is having a summer house constructed on the lake bank opposite the Clifton house, which will be a fine acquisition.

Mrs. Ida R. Holmes' private boarding house and lunch room is gaining in business.  She handed out 36 lunches on Sunday afternoon and has a house full of regular boarders.

The M. E. church people turned out today and put a barbed wire fence along their property.  It will not be agreeable for any one who comes in contact with it.

Our school closes for the spring term on Friday, June 16.  The teacher Miss E. Kearney, has arranged to give the pupils a picnic at Dead Lake on that day.  Parents are cordially invited.

"The Girls' Club," a new organization which has been formed at this place, will give a dance at the Clifton house hall on Friday, June 16.  There is no doubt of the success as the girls are wide-awake, go-ahead girls, who never say fail.  Bill 50 cents.  Music will be furnished by Taylor's orchestra. Everybody come.

In connection with our cheese factory, Mr. Robins, the proprietor, is manufacturing an excellent quality of ice cream which he sells both wholesale and retail.  He is also making a limited supply of creamery butter and is doing a thriving business.  He put down a drive well to supply his engine with water.  At a depth of 30 feet he struck a vein of water which is inexhaustible.  Taken all around it is a great benefit to our town.  The cheese made here is pronounced by patrons to be of the very best quality.
