SPANISH MORTAR HERE

IT GOES TO THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS.

It Comes from Moro Castle and Is a Hundred and Seventy Five Years Old.

The Spanish mortar for the senior class of the university arrived here Tuesday morming from New York and is in the care of Captain Ross Granger, until accepted by the university authorities. This is one of the four allotted to Michigan which Gov. Pingree is distributing about the state. The weight is 2,300 pounds and on it is inscribed "Ludovicus 1, Hispan Rez, A. D. 1724." It was taken from Moro Castle and is of 12 7/8 inch bore. It will be mounted and placed on the campus near the flag staff in the triangle in front of the library.
