Bodies Of Nine Infants
Found in the Cellar and Back Yard of a St. Jo Building.
St. Joseph, Mich., Aug. 3. - The bodies of six infants were found early Tuesday morning in the cellar of the National hotel on Main street and a further search revealed the remains of three more in the rear yard of the building. All the bodies, according to the present tenant of the place, Mrs. Schaefer Eisenburger, bore evidence that the infants had been born alive and strangled. The discovery has given rise to all sorts of surmises and great excitement prevails.
The hotel for many years was occupied by a Mrs. Emma Decker and, as alleged, bore a questionable reputation, but no suggestion of such crimes as this discovery had ever been hinted. No charges have been made against the former occupants of the premises. Indeed, their whereabouts are not known to the police, although they are said to be in the northern part of the state.
