The latest bullet-proof cuirass hails from France and is the invention of Mr. Threaud. lts essential features are a sheet of metal fitted with an outer and inner lining (the composition of which is not stated), the whole apparatus weighing less than eight pounds. According to good authority it was recently tested with a Mauser rifle, which was fired from a distance of about seventy yards. The bullet tore the front of the cuirass and made an indentation in the metal plate, but did not penetrate it.
