Lansinp-, Mich., Sept. 15.- Auditor General Dix to day completed the apportionment of the state taxesof Mich igan for the year 1899, the total of which is $3,725,835.01 and constitutes the largest levy for state purposes in the history of Michigan. ïlie taxes for 1899 are more than the taxes for tvvo years of Gov. Winans' administration, and are nearly 40 per cent higher than for the past several years. The amount of state taxes apportioned to the several counties of the state show that there are only four counties which will be obliged to pay more than Washtenaw. They are as follows: Wayne, $691,1-55.71; Kent, $177,003.29; Houghton, $1-13.288.38; Saginaw, $121,373.69. Washtenaw'a share is established at $104,516.23. Neither Jacksoi),Oakiand Lena wee have lo contribute as miich as this county. The onlysatisfaction Washtenaw can get is the f act that it will receive in an indirect way $279,275 for the university and $109,275 for the State Normal College. That Washtenaw comes pretty near paying tip all its debts to the state is shown by the fact that oC a total of $134,249.77, which the various counties were owing the state July 1, 1899, Washtenaw was only indebted $254.34. The growth in state taxes paid by Washtenaw county may best be shown by the following table of state taxes apportioned to Washtenaw in the past 20 years together with the name of the governor at the time: 1881- Jerome ...$42,395 87 1882- .Terome 37 818 ü(l 1883-Besole .. 54617 50 1884- Begole 33,:.'ii3 85 1885 Alger 1 3U9 6S 1886- Alger 38,146 74 1887- Luce H1.S78I0 1S88- Ijuoe 4B.27S 47 188H- Luce _. 57,798 50 18IW- Luce _.. 4, 099 7(5 1891- Win aas 39 610 03 1892- Winans 39,000 (0 1893- Kich 63,980 23 1894- RIch 4i;,:sro oü 1895- Rieh 46,022 40 1898- Eieh si 989 70 1897- Pingree 66 760 59 18PK- Pingree 60,557 32 1899- Pingree 104,516 ::3
