Death Of Enoch Terhune
Enoch Terhune, of N. State st, died Tuesday at 10 o'clock, aged 82 years. The time of the funeral will be announced later. He was the sixth son of Enoch and Sarah (Depew) Terhune, and born in Seneca county, New York, Jan. 30 1818. He with his parents settled in Pittsfield township in 1831. He received his early education in the schools of Pitseflled and Ypsilanti. He commenced business for himself as a builder and contractor in 1842. Later he became a successful dealer in sashes, doors and blinds, being the first to bring planing mill machinery to Ann Arbor. This raised the wrath of the numerous carpenters who thought their business would be injured. Mr. Terhune also dealt in agricultural impliments. For over a quarter of a century he was one of the active business men of Ann Arbor. Mr. Terhune 's wife died some four months ago. Several sons survive him.
