The f act that Thursday night was rather cold and that Charlie Thompson (colored) had a heavy overcoat, prevenís the necessity of writing his obituary. Just before the time carne for the closing of the saloons that night, Thompson went to Chris. Seyfried's place and maintained that his wife was in tb ere drinking. Mr. Seyfried saw that there would be trouble and barred the front door on him. Thompson then found an axe in the hallway, and went to work at demolishing the door and windows. Naturally, Scyfried objected to the destruction of his property, and pulled his gun. He flred it four times. Three of the bullets lodged in the door jam and one of them struck Thompson in the right side. The ball went through his overcoat, coat, vest, shirt and underwear, and glanced off from his fifth rib. It was af terwards found in the lining of his vest. Thompson rushed up to Patrolman O'Mara, who had heard the shooting, and who was hurrying to the scène, and reported that he had been shot. In the meantime Seyfried had 1 phoned to Sheriff Gillen to arrest Thompson. The officers investigated the matter, and came to the conclusión that Thompson was the aggressor, and in consequence took him to the jail. Thompson is a man with a bad pólice record as to assaults He is now under bonds to appear in the circuit court to answer to a charge of carving up Pete Craig.
