Annual Gathering Is in Session - Measures to be Proposed

Des Moines, Ia., Dec 28. - The Annual convention of the Iowa State Teachers' association opened with a meeting of the educational council and other preliminary committee work. The legislative committee has decided to report resolutions demanding that the legislature establish three new normal schools. The big school book and supply houses are all represented and a vigorous fight is promised for prestige of different publications.

The final report on the reformation of county normal institutes, which has been under consideration for three years, was adopted, recommending legislation by the legislature in favor of trained teachers, necessitating state normal schools, and a four years' course of study in county institutes. State Superintendent Barrett criticized Attorney General Remley for recent rulings limiting the power of the state superintendent, and asking the association to support him in a demand for a more liberal administration of the laws.
