In Switzerland a milkmaid gets better wages if gifted with a good voice, because it has been discovered that a cow will yield one-fifth more milk if soothed during milking by melody. It would be a very good idea for the milkmaids in this country to cultivate their voices, with a view of making their cows more profitable investments than in the past.
