Eihiúr Courier :- I un aware that (rom now till after tlio Je of November, ' .-pace " ín tho columns of tlic papers will [emnnd a premium, yet I uiust ackimwledge tliat I was surprised to fiud ono of' lio plcasantest affaiM of tho season un uieHtioncd in this week's isj-ue, excepting y a throe lino aeknowledtfiuentc f reeoipts. ['lic music of' our fino cornet band on the Street last Wediiesday eveninp wa.s sufficient to attract anyone, and following itn direction, a largo crowd wcre deliKhttd at tho lairy-liko scène presented. A roomy, oíd fashioned mansión, pleasant groumlH, entercd by archways of evergreen, brillunty.lighttd witli liead lights :md Chinoee anternn, tables suggestivo of good thinK to come, floral decorations, young peoplo jromenading, and plca-sant faced uiatrons ready to greet you, were sufficient tu umke a struuger in your city f'eel at hoiuo. Entering tho parlor, fireplace with fender and andirons, and bright wood fire, reminded us of "granduiother's home," aud the coolncsa of the ovening made it decidcdly plcasaut. Hero we met sevcral old citizens who date back to 1825, and relate incidenta occurring before the days of railroads, telegraphs, and tclephones, pastors of your city churchos, and others, truly a " goodly companie." After a few minutoH pleasant conversation, wo were invited to partaku of excellent ioe cream, cake and Icmonade. We found all these pleasant things at the residence of Mrs. D. S. Wood, ex president of tho woman's chistian tempcrance union, under whose auspices the affair was gotten up to meet tho current expensos of their work, and we Icaru that the ainount received was sufficient to pay off a siuall indebtedness, and leave a rospectable amount in their treasury for a beginning of another year's work. It seenis to me that the work of such noble women at least deserves honorable iuention, and truly the citizons of Ann Arbor have reason to thnnk them for what has been done for tome of her nona, and to encourago theui to earoest endeavor for the future.
