Aa is doubtless vcry well known to tuany of our readers our name figurud .somewhat conspicuously as a candidato for gubernHtorial honors at the recent state conventien at Jackson, and although not successful, we feel proud of the several delegations from this congressional district, and those also from other portions of the State, who stood by us go gallantly as long as there was any hope, and to theni for their persevering efforts in our behalf we return hearty and sincore thanks. Numorous friends, also, from tbis city and county, and from othcr sectiona of the state, wcre upon the grounds UBing all honorable endeavors to effect the desired end, and to theni also, we return thanks. We teel very grateful for these expressions of confidence and friendship, and they go far toward turning defeat into victory. It ia unnecessary for us to say tbat we heartily support'the suecessful candidate, aii'l that our earnest efforts in behalf of the ontire state ticket can be fully relied upon.
