The greatest amouat being $127.60 to tl. e Peninsular gaa-light company ; city recordcr's quarterly salary, $75t; city attorney's ditto, $25 ; Ed. Graf, for building cistern cor. Jefferson and 5th streets, $250 ; and court house well expense, $68. 53. A bilí of J. 1 looketter, for $10, ürcated considerable discussion, and wan votcd upon twice, resulting in a tic vote, and finally tabled by a vote of 7 to 6. The special committeo on court house well was disebarged. Aid. Kitredge, irom sidewalk comuiittee reported, vcrbally, that ho liad ordered several to rebuild tbeir walks, but that they wcro both slow and saucy about it, and informed bim tbat the city had no power to compel thom to build. City Attorney Knowlton said that the oity could be held Hablo for any damage to life or limb resultiog from defectivo sidowalks, and had power to protect herself by raising funds to build walks, the samo to be levied as tazes upon the proporty in front of which the walk is laid. McOmber called attention to a petition which was presented to the council sume timo sincc, for the extensión of Church street. He believed that it bad been referred to the street committeo and there slumbered. Aid. Besimer didu't think, in view of the extra expenditure of funds this season, caused by the floods, that there was any money for that purpose, but agreed to meet the street committce on the ground next Friday, at 2 o'clock p. m., sharp.
