A British pbysician, observing the large Bumbor of boys undcr fiflecn yenrs of age Dn the streets with oigars and pipes in their mouths, was prompted to examine tho breath of tbis clas8 of smokers, and for that purpose selected thirty-eight boys between the ages of nine and fifteen. in twenty-two of these cases he found various disorders of the qirculation and digestión, palpitation of the hcart and more or Icsb marked taste for strong drink. In twelve there wan frequent bleeding of the nose, and twelve had slight ulceration of the niouth caused by tobáceo. The doctor treated thein for their ailmouts, but with hule etfcot until the habit of smoking was discontinued, when breath and strongth were soon restored. The effect of tobáceo in creating a tasto for strong drink is unquaëtionably very great.
