in nomination a ticket last Tuesday of which they have every reason to feel proud. There is not a poor stick in the list. From beginiug to end it is composed of good, strong, stal wart republicana, and it is in tbc power of the republican party to elect it. For state senator, the nomincc, Joe T. Jaoobs, of this oity, is well known to every citizen, almost the entirecounty over. He is a yoimg, active, wide awake, thorough republican. He is a man who has sbown remarkable business capacity, and through perfectly legitímate channels has in a few years accumulated a competeney. He is liberal, too, aliaost to a fault, and to his liberality and energy asmuoh as to any other man is due the credit of finally pushing to completion the Toledo & Ann Arbor railroad, which no one can deny has hclped our city and county, and given it an Ímpetus in a business point of view. Mr. Jaooba has never bcfore asked tho suffrages of the ropublicansof this county, although always eontributing largely to the success of the party. A man who has been foremost in all good enterpriscB at home, and helped to build up his own city, as Mr. Jacobs has, will make an active, efficiënt member of the upper house of tho legislatura. Win. E. Depew, of Chelsea, for the office of judge of probate, is ono of the rising young mon of the western portion of this county. He is a stalwart in every way. (irown to manbood among our Chelsea peopie, they present his name as being worthy, and woll worthy, tho suffrage of the peoplo of this couuty. When a man is beloved by his own people, and in evory way fitted both in poiut of legal learning, and mature judgment, for this high office, he should receivo the cordial support of tho party that nominated hiin. For the office of sheriff, tho republicana of that fatnous stronghold, Ypsilanti townphip, have given us the name of W. lrving Yeckley, to be votcd for. It isn't necessary for ua to descantor onlarge upon the fitness of Mr. Y. for the office. He is one of the "oldguards" in republicanism. He has held the office of supervisor for Ypsilanti several years, and is well known throughout the county. Ho is peculiarly fitted for this position, and with him in charge of our county jail, the county need have no fear of having to pay rewardn, because of any over confidenco in the honor of prisoners. " No guilty man will osoapc " from his clutches, after he once secures him. For register of deed, Jirastus N. Gilbort, of this oity, again aeks the suffrages of the rcpublicans. It will be remembered that at the last eloetion hc oaine near securing the prize against Capt. Manly, one of tho most popular domoorats in the oounty. He has lost none of his pnpularity sinee that timo, and being thoroughly competent, and doserving, the republicans will push just a little harder ths time, and land him in tho offioe. Mr. Gilbert's reoord as a soldier alone entitles him to the votes of every loyal, union loving man in this county, For oounty trensurer Frederick Fitzmaier, of Froedom, is the nomineo. He is an honcst, hard working üerman farmer, and if ho doesn't make a comploto turnovor in that old deuiooratio stronghold, Freodoni, then we shall lose our kucsh. Ho will without the least doubt be tho next couuty treasurer. For eounty clerk, Everett B. Clark of Saline, was rcnominated. Lot the man wlu can say ought against Mr. Clark as a gontleuianly, kind, obliging, eoru petent county clcrk, stand up. He has attended to the duties of' thi.s offioe in a mcthodical, businesslike mannrr, and systeniati.ed and brought out of disorder the files ind papers kept tberein. It is worth a great deal besides, tü have a man in the olerk 's office who can not only give information when desired, but du it in such a manner that it wil! not lead you to suppose hc is oonferring a mighty favor, not usually granted to mortals ; or if he cannot answer a question docsn't snap you up bo short that you have to feel of yourself twice to seo if you aro all there. The peoplo will surely not " freeze out " so efficiënt a clerk. He tl a man who kuows hih businoea and attends to it, and at the same time no ver gets above it. Frank Hmerick, oí Ypsilanti, was renominated for prosecuting attorney. While an ineumbent of the office for the past two ycars he has proven himself energetic, and competent. The business of lus office hts never lagged, and he has oonducted many of the cases for the people with iuarked ability, and proved bimself worthy of' rcelcction. The candidatos for coroners, Drs. W. F. lireakey, of this city, and F. K. uwen, of V'psilanti, need no coinmondation. TÏKr Dames are synonymous with all that is honorable and upiight. For surveyor, John K. Yocum, is also nominated for re-election. HonoHt and competent, he will receive the support of bis party. Now, gentlemen, pull off your coats and go to work, and suocees will surcly follow in November.
