It s ono of the sores of modern Italy that moat has becoiuc, througU its dearness, the exclusive food of the rich. And yet the pellagra, or Indian corn discase, would disappear ifmeat were in the rcach of tho laboring classes. The hospitals would then not be so full, and there would bc more hands to work and loss miacry everywhere, and the nation itself would benefit by the hualth of its workers. In any case the poor of Italy are the poorost poor that we can well imagino, and they are also the most patiƫnt and uncomplaining poor.
