Ooco again aro tbc pcoplc petmitted to lear that prinoe of actors, Lawrcnco Barctt, this timo supported by an excellent ompany of actors. Next Monday cvonDg he ia to prosont tho play of Julius ';i"ar, taking the charactcr of Caius Casius. Of this piocc, which bc playcd in )etroit last Monday evening, the Eveniug íows says : Lawrence Barrett opened hls engagement nt V'lntney'N opera Uousc last evonïug as Caiuu Casslus, iu Hhapespeare's grand tragedy of " Julius Cuar." The part oí Cásalas I one of the strongest In Mr. Barrett's repertory. The eminent tragodlan wan Iu hls best mood last ovcnlng, nuil lt is doubtful if hu ever persouated the arcli consplrator In a more stnldngly powerful and efl'ectlve manner. The audience was completely carried away wlth enthuslasm, nnd npplaudeu Casslusand Brutusand all tho othor noble Romans to the echo. The company supportlug Mr. Barrett Is headcd by Ia iu 1h James, a line actor. Mr. James has a deep, rlch volee, whlch enables hlm to display hls abllity as a reader to the bext possible mivan toge. In all respecU except hts face, whlch was a hard, cynlcal, sarcastlc expression, he made an excellent impression, and worthUy shared the principie honors of the evenln. Before playlng Brutus agaln Mr. James should arrange hls front halr so as to show a llttle more forehead, and alter the scornful curl of hls raouth, whlch is more suitable to the character of Cmmr than that of the noblest Kotuan of them all. The other members of the company are coraparatively new in Detroit. Frederick Brock's Mark Antony was a well consldered and satisfactory piece of work, such as mlght have been expected from an actor of long experience and establlshed reputatlou. Ilobert Uudson's Ciesar was not up to the mark, and Mrs. Meek's Portla and Miss Story's Calphurnia probably didn't show the ladles to the best advantage. Mr. Kogers made a very acceptable Casca, and theremalnderof the cast contrlbuted to a generally even and sniooth performance. It is uselcss to add anything to the above. Barrett is appreciated here and never fails to draw immense houses, and the present occasion will be no exception.
