Ben. F. Martin, of Bay City, has been visitiug his father, O. M. Martin, and othor relativos and friends in the city this week. Miss Lillie, dauguter of l'rof. B. E. Nichols, left this week f'or New York city to spend a year studying painting. Miss NichoU, we understand, bas already givcn some years to thia study. II. H. Finley, of Minnesota, he of tho Donnclly-Springer-Finley bribery letter case, whicli attracted so niuch attention last winter at Washington, has been visiting relatives in the city for some time. Mr. E. H. Griffith, with D. B. De Land & Co., of Fairport, N. Y., was a caller at tlic Courier office Tuesday laat. Mr. G. is a member of the American society of lüicroscopists, and the society in Detroit was naraed ia bis honor. Geo. E. Morton, one of the writor'sfirst pupils at the Flint school for the deaf and dumb, called at the Courier office Iast Wednesday. George is making rapid progresa at bis Jrade, and being steady, faithful and competent, Ls an excellent model for his class, who can attain sucoess only through groat paticnce and peraeveranoe. He is now in tho employ of G. W. Owen & Co., Detroit.
