As important legislatiou in the interest of the newspaper publishers of the state is denianded (particularly with reference to the libel laws as thcy now exUt), it is important that all editor aud publishers interüsted in their own welfare, be present and aid in preparing such legislation, so that it uiay be preseoted to tlic legislatura, for their action, early in the session. We publish an article in this issue of the Coirier from the Detroit Kvening News, entitled "Michigan in thecabinet," whieh indicates pretty elearly that our state is to le represented in the cabinet of President Garfield. Mr. Newberry, the gentleman of whom mention is made, is a gradúate of the university of Michigan, a gentleman of fine personal attractions, excollent mental abilities, and possesses a peculiar tact for business, of which but few men can boast. With all of the.se ualifieations it is veiy certain that should he be ,-alled to represent our noble state in the next cabinet, he will honor the position, as well as being honored by it.
