A young wife reccntly went shopping, and ainong other tilinga sbe bought a new hat - a Derby, the firnt of' the kind she had ever worn. She stood at the counter with the hat on, when her sister came in, looked at it very hard, and said to a f'riend, "Ilow much that lady looks like my sister!" It required a personal explanation toconvince her that she was her sister. On the train she spied her husband, who was buried in the evening paper. He glanced at her aad returned to his oews. 3k Mt ncar hiui, and alter a whilo said, "Charley." Ha looked up, grinned, looked a little undecided, and again returned to liis paper. When tue train stopped she went up behind hiiu and said, "Charley." But he, the good boy, didn't even look around. Then she touched his arm and said in dispuir: "Charley, dnn't you know me? Wliat is the matter?" At this he itopped, gazed at her Éteadily, and said: "I beg your - What ! Oh, theduce! Come, now ! Is that you, Mionie? Wliv, what's come over you?" "I suppose it's this horrid, horrid hat. 111 take it off the minute I get home and never wear il again. Dida't you really know me, dear?" "Of course not. I thought it was that girl aeross the street trying to ecrapc acquaintance with me." ____ Don't let your horses be seen standing much at a lager bjer saloon ; t don't look right.
