Shekel, who lived a little ways out of the village, had committcd suicide by taking laudanum. It seeins that Mr. Shekel had been partially paralyzad souie time last suninier, and had lost the use of his right arm to some extent. This seemed to prey upon him, and he grew very despondent and melancholy. The thought of becoming helpless and a burden to his friends was a terrible prospect to him, so upon last Saturday night he procured the poisonous drug and took it, which deprived him of' life the next mornine. The deceased bad long been a resident of Saline township, and was held in hinii es teem by bis neighbors and friends. He was a very liberal man with his fellow men, was in well to-do circumstances, owed no onc, and had money out at interest. He was 61 yearsof age.
