We have receivod acopy of tbe speech of Hon. John S. Newberry, delivered in the national house of representatives oq Friday last, the Tth iaat., upon the Halil'ax Fisheries Award. Mr. Newberry is very certain that Johnny Buil defrauded Uncle Sani in that dieker, and proposes to have bil conduct investigated. We are indebted to Hon. David II. Jerome, for a oopy of his inaugural message, as governor, in pamphlet form. Also to Ilon. Wm. Jenny for his second annual report of the secretary of state relating to farm products. Governor John D. Long, of Massachusetts, will please accept our thanks for a copy of a pamphlet entitled " Reply of the Boston Committee to Sec'y Schurz," and also for a copy of the speech of Mr. T. H. Tibbles in Tremoot Temple, Boston, upon the subject: " Western men Defended." Also to Land Commissioner Jas. M. Neasmith for hi-s annual report. Rddpath says that landlordism, and laudlordism alone is responsible for the pitiable oondition of things in Ireland. Ve know of il valuable business bloclcs in DeUoit whicb cannot be tazed because owned by a church society. It seems to us that ootade of an edifice or place of worship, any pioperty belonging to a church society should not be ezempt from paytag its just proportion for the support of the city and state government, and it is :i aiMMioB ifeveo that should Bot be rcstricted to a certain amount.
