Boys do love to " ctch on " sleighs and have a ride. Il is one of the mos-t ex liilerating sports which piesents it.-elf to the average bey during the winter sea.'on, and next to the sumraer practice of "eooning " watermelons, is perhapsaccompanicd wit h the most delicious excitement. Ilow he heart of a boy leaps for joy when an etnpty sleigh imiiics along with a smart team hauling it, and a still smarter driver who " whips up " just before he gets to a crowdof boys, who are all ready to " ketch lolt ! " Tbey usually stand witli niouths shockinglyajar, prepared toast in demoniae chorus, "kinlride?" (boys are most always lutifst, and seldom jump un without first asking permission.) The sniarter the team, of course the smarter the boy who succeeds n catching on, and the more attention the driver has to pay to his horses, and the less me he has to " whip behind." And another thing is quite noticeable, that il a Ky catches a stake with his hands and misses the sleih with his feet, ho always langs hold till he has tried the sliding for a few rode, and when he does finally let go, and slowly picks hiiiiself up, looking more ike a w ilkin.L' snow bank tban a boy, how gently he puts his hand around to dig out he sdow between his t-hirt collar and hiH neck ; and how his tceth will chatter M a olid luinp zig-zags down bis back, now topping to cool off his shoulder blades, hen meltingly tickJiug him whero Ui waistband is gathered. Iiero it usually permanently locates, and keeps trickling iown first one pant leg, und then the otber, while the youth frantically endeavors to each the offending lunip by violently wriggling, twisting, kicking and clawing for it, ut never successfully. Ilow the boys will 11 yell at hira, too, and ask him " if its old?" or "how high tho thermometer s?" When he goe home at night his lothes will be about in the tell-tale coudiion of a lad's tiair after bc has been in wiinming ; his boots will be shrunk and lin! tiglitly to his l'eet, and bis stoekinv's ' ringing wet." But it's fun. SfetUtt '. 'vc been there, and know. l'areuts, on't whipyour boys for "catching a ride." 'oa know how you atad to likt? it yourelf.
