The articic in this weeks Uoniremtj not truc, if the won] of aeTenlttndantawbo were present mnd partkipated, are wortli anything. Wc notice that iho studenta who seem to foei so badly about our telling the truth are those who are to gradúate the comiDg year. It is true that Mr. Beal was iu favor of the renomination and re-clection of supervisor Krapf, for two reasons. One is that tlnri' is no man more capable or who can transact the business of the ofliee any better than be can, and the other is that it was of great importante that a republican sliould be elected at tlii time, because the county is to be re-districted into representativa districts by the coming board. We thought, and still think, nostrongeror better man could liavc been placed in nominatioo. The statement of the Argus last week, that we wcre at work witli the democratie delégales from Monrofl at the democratie judicial eonvention oí" this district, lo have Judge Morris renominated, in the interest ofSawyeranl Emerick, is not true. The only thing we said to any of the dulcgatcs, was to repeat the rematk nf Jadge ( 'ratio, of Dezter, that he considcred Chaunei y .li)lin th best man of all the democratie OMMÜdates fur judge. A newspaper man should not wilf'ully misrepri sent a li"ther journalist. As to the preoest cia.-s, it is only mnmiji for u to saj tliatanyone who understands the "relations" of the class to the Jay pp' knows why we decline to cali on thetn. Cooley, Clement?, Pouglas &. Co., made a herculean effbrt to run the contcmptiblc little Marston ahead of his ticket in this city, meeting with their best suecess in the Sal ward. They even went so far as to offer to pay men for their day's work at the polls. Uut it was no go. In SpiU of all their efforts he is badly behind his ticket in this city. Judge Cooley, Douglas & Co., and their attorneys, lieakes and Kinne, and lliee A. Beal, Preston 15 EU, and his attorney, A. J. Sawyer, all live in the first-ward of tï.is city. Sixty-thrce republicans voted against Marston in this waid, without any one being hircd by the day to do the work. Fifieen republicans in this ward cut off the names of Joy and Blair, and we are pure that weean namethirteeo out of the fifieen men who did this deed ; which was for the purposc of clectitii; one of Douglas' attorneys as regent. Prohibitionist.slook at tkegloriem results of your votes on Monday last, How pleasant indeed it must be for you to assemble together and discuss the labors of the day, or daj'8, that it required to effect so great an object. But then you can afford to work hard, for see how soon at this rate you will banish whisky from our beautiful city, how soon the doors of the saloons will bc closed, not only in front, but in the rear, can you estímate at this ratc how soon the temptation that has been placed in the way of the hundreds of young men who come yearly to receive an education in our great university, will be removed, far from their reach and out of their sight? Justreflect a little, it may do you good, if that one idea that lias taken possession of you hts not crowded out all others that you ever had. You have suceeeded it is true, if that is any sati.sfaction, in defeating the republican ticket in this city. To you the dernocrats owe their election. You have suceeeded in defeating W. H. Stuith, our candidatefor mayor, who is fully equal as a man and citizen to Dr. Kapp who is elected. You suceeeded in electing as recorder U .W. Douglas n place of J. W. I iamilton. You suceeeded in defeating such men as John Ferdon and Contad Krapf, the latter an old man "O years of age, an estimable citizen who has served the people faithfully and wcll for 1G years, and elected in his place C. H. llichmond, a rabid democrat witli no better record in any particular than his opponent, Mr. Krapf. And also Hon. O. A. Critehett, the republican candidate for judge, who was, to say the least equally as good a temperance man as his opponent, Mr. Joslin. You have also made some such democrat as John W. Hunt the custodian of the city funds the coming year, in place of that loyal, and diiabled republican soldier, and temperanee man, Orville F. Webster. We must acknowledge that we fail to see where your victory comes in. But then, a few of the members of the legislatura displeased you and you could not wait to see whether they would submit the qaattioa of prohibition to the people one year from now or in twj years as they doubtless would have done had you acted wistly. Then the people would, no doubt, have been much more likely to have votod favorably upon the question than now. But you inut go about destroying the party to which you yourselves mostly belonjr, and the only party to which you eau look for progresa in this reform movement. "üli! conslstency! Thouartajuv.i '
