Laat Monday was not a field day for the republicans ot' Ann Arbor-to any very great extent. They forgot the old, but very trite maxini, that "a house divided against itself eannot stand." The so-callfd red ribbon people, nearly all of' whorn carne frora the ranks of the ro publican party, endeavored to have a little side show of tlu'ir own ; and they succeeded admirably. They gave all the "cake" to their enemies. They succeeded in electing a mayor and eouncil bitterly opposed to the priociples for which they contend. To be explicit, tbey raised "the old scratch," and were " eaught out " before even reachiug the first base. Whether they are happy or not, we haven' t been informed, but we are certain that "ye local" isn't. He is not inclined to glory over the results, not excessively, but reluctantly gives the figures to tba public - and the red ribbon boys- with full penuission to extract all the bliss out of thena that it is possible to obtain. Wor about tLe first time in the history of the state a constitutional aaiendment has been receivcd favorably by tbe people. Tbis time there were tiiree submitted, none of which were opposed to any extent. It isn't a good plan to tinker up the constitution too íuuch. A constiturional convention will be saddled on to the people again, if it is patched a great deal, and heavy expenses will surely fullow.
