Secretary Hunt is making a tour of inspection of the northern navy yards. The new dean of Westminster Abbey, Kev. George Granville Bradlcy, delivered liis inaugural sermón last Sunday. Hon. Juliii8 C. Burrows, of Kalamazoo, has gone to Washington to look after hls claims to the Speakership of the House. It is reported that the internal revenue bureau does not favor the proposed reduction of the whisky tax f rom 90 to 50 per cent., but that Commissioner Raum will report adverse to it. Whisky is certainly onc of the articles that can stand a heavy tax and there is no necessity of reducing such tax. Gen. Williams, of Pittsburg, who has been laboring in the burnt district forsome time past, carne to Detroit last week. In a statement of the situation of aft'airs at Minden, after giving the number of sick and injured that had been cared for, he recominonds the establishment of a hospital at that point. This would indeed be a great asslstance to the nurses and a blessing to the sick. The new British minister to Washington, Mr. Lionel Sackville West, has arrived at Pliiladelphia where he was tendered a reception on board a steamer which lay in alraost the same spot as the ship, on board f which Lord De la Ware, an ancestor of Mr. West, died. The former was the second govenior and the first captain-general of Virginia. From him the State of Delaware received its name.
