The following rather curious piece of composition was recently placed opon the blackboard at a teachcr's instituto, and a prize of a Webster' dlctionary offered to any person wlio wdiiHI reail and pronounce every word correctly. The book was not carried oif, however, as twelve was the lowest nuiuber of mistukes made in pro nounciation: "A saeriligious sou of Belial, who suffered from bronchitis, having estmMtod his nuances, in order to nmkc good the dtilicit, resolved to ally himself to a coinely, lenient and docile young lady of tttfl Malav or Caucasian race. He aecordingly puinhised a calliope and coral necklaee of a cliamelon hue, and securinu; a suite of rooms at a principal hotel, engaged t Inliead waiter as his coadjutor. He Uien dispatched a letter of the most iinexceptiomil oalllgraphy extant, inviting ;the young lady to a matinee. Slie revoltedat the idea; refused to consider heiself saerificable to his desires, and sent a polite note of refusal, on receiving which, he procured a carbineaml and a bowie knife, and said he would not forge fetters hymeneal wiih tlic queen; went to an isolated spot, severed his jiifrular vein, and discharged the coiitentsol his carbine into his abdomen. Thedebris was removed by the coroner." The mistakes in pronnnciation weie made on the following words: SacreliglouB, Bolial, bronchitis, exhausted, tinanancos, ili - licit, comely, lenient, docile, Malav, calliope, chameleon, suite, coadjutor, calligraphy, matinee, sacrificable, carbine, hviiieneal. isolated, iueular. and debris. -
