A Surprise Party
The house of the Hon. A. J. Sawyer was the scène of a very pleasant surprise party last Friday evening. While the family were sitting at the tea-table several hacks arrived from the depot, bringing a number of the old time friends of Mr. and Mrs. Sawyer f rom Clielsea. The party had been preceded by Mrs. Tichenor and MissMajrzii- Sawyer who had made preparations for the unexpected guests. The party from Cuelsea consisted of the following gentlemen and their wives: Messrs. James P. Wood, R. S. Armstrong, G. W. Turnbull, James Hadier, VVm. Martin, J. h. Gllbert, J. Crotiell, E. L. Negus, Thomas Wilkinsoii, H. M. Woods, and Mr. O. M. Thatcher. The Hon. Edwin Willets, who happened to be In town, was sent for to make the party complete. After all had partaken of a bountiful repast provided lor them Mr. Thatcher with a few appropriate remarks inbehalfof the company, presented Mr. Sawyer with a biithday present- a beautiful gold hended canc. Mrs. Sawyer was also remembered and presented with a silver cup and saucer, Mrs. E. L. Negus doing the presenting. The evening passed pleasantly and about nlne o'clock the hacks called again to tiike the party to the cars. The occasion wlll long be remerabered by all who were present, and the gifts will be greatly treasured by those who were so completely surprlsed.
