The Southeastern Bee Keepers' Association held its first annual meeting at the court house December 15, 1881. The condition of the roads was such that there was not a large attendance. It was, however, a vfry interesting meeting. The reading of the minutes of the last meeting and other business waa lirst attended to. Professor Stfere then discussed the subject of "Kaces of Bees," giving the result of liis observations and scientirtc researchcs while traveling Among the many species and races that he mentioned was the large black bee of the East Indian Islaiuls. It is twice the size of our common bee, and builds iU nest of wax beneath the limbs of trees near the trunk. It is very ferocious and dangerous to disturb. It is hunted for its wax which is of great commercial value, and is gatbered by professional bee hunters. The most Interesting bee is found in the mountains of Formosa. It is about the size of our common native bee, is yery docile, living in the walls of dwel - ings, and it makes excellent honey. It is called the Apis Formotina. The Professor describo) how these bees can be trausported to this country aud how the naiives kuidla thein in an interesting marnier. Dr. Ashley. of rpstlantl, thought that they were the coming bee, and spoke in the lügheat teifnm of thelr probable valué. He moved that Professor Stecre be appointed t correápond witli missionaries of his acquaintanco ith a vievv to inakiug arangements for the shipment of these bees to this country.
