Prof. VV. H. Payne s taking Dr. Cocker's Psychology class. As the junior hop has to come before Leut it will probably take place February 2ud. Prof. Moses Coit Tyler lectured to a arge audietice in New York city Monday night. H. E. Moseley, '83, has returned to colege after a successful engagement in the ook-trade. Those who seceded from the junior hop drrangements are endeavoring to get up n Gerinan in opposition. Prof. N. C.Vaughan, of tlie medical deartment, has been appointed member of he State Board of Health. Tbe friends of Prof. Stowell will be ained to hear that he is not improving n health, but rathcr getting worse. College work began Tuesday inoruing but as usual, after vacations, Uhe classes were small becatise of the studente " getting left " by the last trains. The authorities at the University are in hopes that tliey will be able before long to introduce the electric light on the campus, in the main hall, and in the new library building. Tliey hare received propositions from the Brush eompany to put in six of their are lights for $2,000. The Edison eompany will put in 160 of their incandescent lights for $4,171, l"d twenty-five additional lamps for $2,019 more. This includes for all their eafety appliances and underground cable from the Chemical Laboratory to both buildings. With the Brush arrangement the dynamo can be placed in the engiue house, and with tbe otner system the batte rics could bestored In the basement of the library or main hall. It is an iniproveuionl greatly to be desired. At the regents meeting last week, the following changes were marie: Prof. 15cmaa's tltle was changed from Assistant to Associate Professor of Mathematica withOHt increase of salary. W. II. JJavis, M. D., vas appointed resident surgeon of the Homoeopathlc hospital ; Thomas Turner, M. D., agsistant to the chair of Materia Medica ; W. P. Polhemus, M. D., assistant to the chair of Principies and. Practice of Medicine and Ophtamology; Hugo Lupiiiski, assistant Demonstrator of Anatomy in the place of S';huyler Graves. The resigiiation of Secretary IJennett and Treasurer Tolchard were accepted and a committee consisting of Hegents Grosvenor, Joy and Walker were appointed to recoinmend the niimesof suitable persons to lili the vac.mcies. This committee will report at the meeting to be held on the 23J inst. Mr. Tolchard was strongly urged to withdraw his resis?nation, but he had engngcd hitnself as cashier of the new bank.
